    A summary of the path which lead to a high energy physics group at Instituto de Fisica de la Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi is presented. This group is the result of the initial push made by Leon Lederman at the beginning of the 80's.Comment: Talk given at the Session honoring Leon Lederman at the VII Mexican Workshop on Particles and Fields, Merida, Mexico, November 10-17, 1999. Spin content of constituent quarks and one-spin asymmetries in inclusive processes

    Get PDF
    We consider mechanism for one-spin asymmetries observed in inclusive hadron production. The main role belongs to the orbital angular momentum of the quark-antiquark cloud in the internal structure of constituent quarks. We argue that the origin of the asymmetries in pion production is a result of retaining of this internal angular orbital momentum by the perturbative phase of QCD under transition from the non-perturbative phase. The non-perturbative hadron structure is based on the results of chiral quark models. PACS number(s): 11.30.Qc, 12.40.Pp, 13.75.Ni, 13.88.+eComment: 21 pages LaTeX + 8 figures (not included

    Low Energy Pion-Hyperon Interaction

    Full text link
    We study the low energy pion-hyperon interaction considering effective non-linear chiral invariant Lagrangians including pions, rho mesons, hyperons and corresponding resonances. Then we calculate the S- and P-wave phase-shifts, total cross sections, angular distributions and polarizations for the momentum in the center-of-mass frame up to k=400 MeV. With these results we discuss the CP violation in the csi-> pi-lambda and omega-> pi-csi weak decays.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figure

    Polarization in Hadronic \Lambda Hyperon Production and Chiral-Odd Twist-3 Distribution

    Full text link
    Polarization of the \Lambda hyperon produced with a large transverse momentum in the unpolarized nucleon-nucleon collision is analyzed in the framework of QCD factorization. We focus on the mechanism in which the soft-gluon component of the chiral-odd spin-independent twist-3 quark distribution E_F(x,x) becomes a source of the polarized quark fragmenting into the polarized \Lambda. Our simple model estimate for this contribution indicates that it gives rise to a significant \Lambda polarization at large x_F. This is in parallel with the observation that the soft gluon pole mechanism gives rise to a large single transverse spin asymmetry in the pion production at x_F\to 1.Comment: 10 pages in LaTex + 5 figures in PS files. La informalidad y su impacto en la calidad de vida en Cartagena de Indias, Colombia

    La informalidad es un conjunto de prácticas sociales, económicas que se desarrollan al margen de la legalidad y las normas establecidas, y su solución requiere de políticas públicas efectivas que fomenten la formalización economía y el cumplimiento de las leyes y normas establecidas. Esto implica, entre otras cosas, que entidades como la Cámara de Comercio, la Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio, el Sena, la DIAN, y el Ministerio de Salud y Protección Social, así como la alcaldía de Cartagena (2020) a partir de s plan de desarrollo Salvemos juntos a Cartagena tiene aspectos que desarrollan estrategias de capacitación en áreas económico-administrativas, para los micro empresarios, pequeñas empresas, trabajadores informales que generen incentivos fiscales atractivos que los motiven a formalizar sus negocios

    First Measurement of pi e -> pi e gamma Pion Virtual Compton Scattering

    Full text link
    Pion Virtual Compton Scattering (VCS) via the reaction pi e --> pi e gamma was observed in the Fermilab E781 SELEX experiment. SELEX used a 600 GeV/c pi- beam incident on target atomic electrons, detecting the incident pi- and the final state pi-, electron and gamma. Theoretical predictions based on chiral perturbation theory are incorporated into a Monte Carlo simulation of the experiment and are compared to the data. The number of reconstructed events (9) and their distribution with respect to the kinematic variables (for the kinematic region studied) are in reasonable accord with the predictions. The corresponding pi- VCS experimental cross section is sigma=38.8+-13 nb, in agreement with the theoretical expectation sigma=34.7 nb.Comment: 10 pages, 12 figures, 4 tables, 25 references, SELEX home page is http://fn781a.fnal.gov/, revised July 21, 2002 in response to journal referee Comment

    First observation of a narrow charm-strange meson DsJ(2632) -> Ds eta and D0 K+

    Full text link
    We report the first observation of a charm-strange meson DsJ(2632) at a mass of 2632.6+/-1.6 MeV/c^2 in data from SELEX, the charm hadro-production experiment E781 at Fermilab. This state is seen in two decay modes, Ds eta and D0 K+. In the Ds eta decay mode we observe an excess of 49.3 events with a significance of 7.2sigma at a mass of 2635.9+/-2.9 MeV/c^2. There is a corresponding peak of 14 events with a significance of 5.3sigma at 2631.5+/-1.9 MeV/c^2 in the decay mode D0 K+. The decay width of this state is <17 MeV/c^2 at 90% confidence level. The relative branching ratio Gamma(D0K+)/Gamma(Dseta) is 0.16+/-0.06. The mechanism which keeps this state narrow is unclear. Its decay pattern is also unusual, being dominated by the Ds eta decay mode.Comment: 5 pages, 3 included eps figures. v2 as accepted for publication by PR
